Take the title literally, not any reference to my mood.  After two long, sometimes monotonous colour, I had a day of roads and colours to dream about.
I rode from Rifle, South on Highway 141 to 145 to Rico.
The canyon is called both the Gateway Canyon as well as the Unaweep Canyon.
Coffe break was at Karen's 141 Diner which was a flash back in time.
I continued south through even more dramatic country and stopped at the Hanging Flume which is an engineering marvel,  Hung on the side of the canyon walls for seven miles is a flume to deliver water to downstream mining locations.  This flume allowed the miners to have constant water under pressure.  It is amazing how they hung this to the wall.
Lunch was a t Blondies which was another flash back in time, and they had three vegetarian hamburgs along with their traditional hamburgers.  The burgers were terrific along with the sweet potato fries.
I met Carol and Roger, two locals who had just had lunch after attending church.  They work on a ranch in the area.
I then rode through Rico and as the rain began I was fortunate to find the Circle J Ranch that has motel rooms at fair prices.  Dinner was served for all guests at exactly six o'clock and it was pizza, salad and almond struddle.  All was homemade and excellent.

Wow! The hues of the rocks look similar to Purmamarca in the north of Argentina. Great shots.

Those hills are out of this world. Great that you have experienced
the power of their size.
