What a great name for a town: Wickee Wachee.
Today was a very relaxing day starting with a visit to the parents of a friend of mine who spend four months of the year in Florida in order to avoid the cold of Ontario. They are bikers and brought their two bikes down south in a trailer and ride locally. They have a great rental unit not far from the beach and very reasonable. I was offered a wonderful cup of tea and then moved on further east.
I took some back roads, mostly Highways 98 and 19 and found many interesting things.
I came across a tent at the side of the road selling "Hot Boiled Peanuts". I rode on for a minute or so then decided this was something I had never tried, and did a U-turn to check it out. One the gentleman selling the peanuts realized this was something new for me, he insisted I try a couple and take some with me to have later. The peanuts in the shell seem to be boiled in a brine solution over a propane heater. They were very good, somewhat salty and I found later that you become very thirsty.
A few hours later it was time for lunch and like magic Big D's Bar-B-Q came into sight. I ordered a half a slab with coleslaw. See the photograph. It was so much food it was both lunch and supper.
I continued East and South on Highway 19 and just as the sun started to go below the horizon I arrived at Wickee Wachee and spent the night at a Comfort Inn.
Even though the sun was out all day, it remained cool and windy so I kept my electric vest on all day. The forecast is for higher temperatures over the next few days. I can only hope.
Distance Travelled: 346 Miles ( 554 Km)
