Early morning start as we left the hotel before 7 after breakfast. It took about 5 hours to get to Eceabat, which is still on the European side of Turkey. Here we had lunch then had a 5 hour tour of Gallipoli. This is an area made famous by some of the events that took place during World War 1. The area played host to a large battle between Australian and NZ forces against Turks. We saw many monuments dedicated to the men that lost their lives in battle. We also saw the ANZAC memorial and ANZAC cove, and we visited some of the preserved trenches. The day was quite interesting.

When our tour had finished up we transferred on the ferry over to a lovely town called Çanakkale. By taking that 15 minute ferry ride we crossed into Asia, although I will admit I did not feel any change whatsoever! We then settled into our hotel and followed that up with a lovely dinner at a café right on the water.

I then ventured down the boardwalk at night to see the Trojan horse they actually used in the filming of Troy.

This post does not do Çanakkale nearly the justice it deserves. It is a truly gorgeous little town and I really loved it here and I wish we had stayed longer. The cobblestone streets and cafés with open air tables right by the water. The warm breeze coming in off the Dardanelles from the Aegean Sea. The laid-back atmosphere and boardwalk and lights from the town reflecting off the water into the distance. Wonderful place.

Tomorrow we leave though but not before a big breakfast. Then we are off to Selçuk via Troy.
