It was a quick ferry ride to Ko Phangan from Samui, only about 30 minutes. We knew the full moon party was on the 30th so we had 7 nights until it happened, and we were not sure if we wanted to stay that long. When we arrived we quickly found a place to stay at Coral Bungalows for a very good price, but that price was only valid for the next 2 nights, so we took the room then started to explore Haad Rin, which is the little town on Ko Phangan where all the craziness happens.

The same day we arrived we walked down to the beach where the party actually takes place, and we started inquiring about prices and availability of bungalows right on the beach, and we were lucky enough to find a place which was right on the beach and had a perfect view of the entire stretch of sand, so we reserved it right then and there, and it was decided then that we were going to stay and party for the full moon.

Back to the Coral Bungalows. This was an OK place. It had cheap massages and it was the location of the famous nightly pool party in Haad Rin. We also did a day trip they offered which took us to Thaan Sadet waterfall, where we went for a swim, then for lunch at Bottle Beach, which was a gorgeous secluded beach on the north side of the island, then for some snorkeling before we finished our round-trip of the island with a rum and coke and sunset as we pulled back up to the pier.

After a couple of days at Coral we packed up and walked over to our new digs at The Rock bungalows, directly beside Paradise Bungalows which is the place that the full moon party actually originated. Our bungalow was right down at beach level, but high enough up to be safe from crazies who had too much to drink. It was also right beside the world famous Full Moon Party sign. It was a blast here for the next 5 nights. Every night the music played until sunrise at 6am, and the parties on the beach were pretty amazing. Lots of buckets of alcohol, fire dancing, jumping ropes on fire, hoops on fire that you can run and jump through, food and dancing and super loud music and lots of people having a great time. Everything was so cheap, so it was a great few days. The night of the 30th was unbelievable. It seemed as if every backpacker anywhere near Ko Phangan showed up this night. Everyone was dressed in neons and body paint and just having a great time. Truly a night to remember. Of course neither of us got any sleep and we took off the next morning at 10:30am while the music was still blasting on the beach and even a few dancers still partying away in broad daylight. We were making the 18 hour journey back to Bangkok via overnight train to make a connection to either Chiang Mai or Kanchanaburi. It is always fun not knowing where you are going next!
