After flying from Melbourne to Sydney I hopped on a train into downtown Sydney, then transferred onto another train for the 2.5 hour journey up the coast towards Newcastle.

Some amazing views from the train, very interesting landscape.

I'd arranged to stay with cousins in a small little town called Valentine for Christmas, and I had a great week.

It was very interesting to spend a Christmas in the heat of Australia, and I enjoyed the differences but also missed home. The entire population of Valentine came down to the local beach on Christmas Eve and Santa arrived on his big white and red boat, blaring Christmas tunes, and then he hopped onto a little speedboat and came ashore to give out treats to the kids and to pose for pictures. Everybody brought down a big picnic and lounge chairs and enjoyed the warm weather.

I've had a nice relaxing week. I've visited some more wildlife parks, got to pet a koala, went for a 26km bike ride around a small portion of Lake Macquarie, visited a famous beach called Redhead, which was absolutely amazing, it seemed to stretch endlessly for miles. Great waves and warm white sand. Unbelievable!

Tomorrow I am taking the train back down to Sydney to spend 3 days there sightseeing and taking in the New Years Eve fireworks.

That is it for now, getting late.
