Leaving Taupo in the morning we headed in the direction of Wellington today.
On the way there we passed Mt. Doom, (yes another reference for LOTR geeks) so we stopped for a photo opportunity (yes, I was one of these aforementioned geeks).
Not much else to see except the very nice rolling hills of the North Island until we got to Wellington. We went up Mt. Victoria for a 360 degree view of the entire city, and spent about an hour at the Te Papa museum, which was actually really interesting! The airport was also pretty interesting to look at from Mt. Victoria, it is the 3rd most dangerous airport in the world because of how windy Wellington is.
Walked around the city after settling into hostel and the wind was absurd. Sometimes the winds can get up over 100km/h.
Off to the South Island in the morning.

Glad you're not flying in or out of Wellington!
