Although we wanted to start working our way toward Florida, we thought it might be a great weekend for some beach time and maybe a bit of golf.  Pensacola Florida is supposed to have some of the nicest beaches along the coast so headed for there, a short drive from Gulfport.

We had cross winds for most of the trip, a bit unnerving as we crossed the bridge past Mobile Alabama.  The bridge was about 6 miles long and only about 20' above the huge Mobile Bay.

We saw some of it yesterday but virtually all of today, we were driving past empty lots where houses or buildings had stood before Hurricane Katrina.  Other buildings were still boarded up.  There were signs of people starting over though with new construction completed or in progress.  There's lots for sale if you're interested.

It's raining here tonight in Lillian Alabama, just outside Pensacola Florida.  It sounds like it will be wet for another day or so which means our beach and golf plans are likely out the window until Monday.  Unfortunately this means Saturday will be a shopping day - yippee (guess who wrote this).
