I finally arrived in Athens today! My flight out of Madrid was delayed 2 hours to 1:30 in the morning, so I got in around 6 am in Athens! After getting about 2 hours of sleep on the plane, I headed straight to my hotel/hostel to put my bags down, then out to see the sights. Where I am staying is literally at the foot of the Acropolis. Since I didn't get a map of Athens, they are 7 euro, I walked through the streets towards the Acropolis. I found the Ancient Agora, which is basically where all the government buildings were. I walked around that area for a while and saw a cool temple and went through the museum. I then headed up the hill to the Acropolis. It isn't nearly as high up as I thought it would be, but it is still pretty high to carry all that marble. It was so amazing to see all the different temples at the top of the Acropolis, and to look down on the city. The Parthenon is in the process of being restored, but it was still so amazing to see. I then found my way down and saw some other ruins that are around the Acropolis. A little ways away is the Olympiad of Zeus. It is hardly there anymore, except for a few columns. There is even a column that has fallen over that is still there. Also very amazing. After all this I went back to my hotel for a little nap. When I woke up I went to buy my tickets for the ferry to Mykonos and Santorini. I noticed that there were many nice shops that I like down the road of the ticket place, so I decided to do some shopping on my way back to the hotel. I also found this little cafe off one of the streets. There was a group of people sitting around singing and playing music, so it was very entertaining to watch and listen to them while I ate. Of course I could not undestand what they were singing because it was in Greek, but it sounded really good. I ended up staying at the cafe for a couple hours listening to them. Finally I went back to my hotel again to put my shopping bags down and headed to Likovitas (sp?) Hill. It has the best views of Athens from the top! I walked there, and on my walk I had to climb probably 200 steps, at least, and it is very hot out here, but I made it. I took the tram to the top and was able to see for miles! I could even see the coastline! I took lots of pictures of the views. The sunset was amazing from up there looking over the mountains. Now I am back at the hotel getting ready for bed, because I have to get up at 5:45 to catch my ferry to Mykonos in the morning!
