After Juliana and Rodrigo left, I was finally able to track down the kiteboarding instructor. Of course on the first day I was all excited to go, and then we had to wait around the entire day unti 3:30 for the wind to pick up! It finally did and I have my first lesson just learning to control the kite. Day two was body drags, which is about as fun as it sounds. You are holding on to the kite and being dragged behind it in the ocean. Most people learn in lakes and such where there are no waves, but of corse I learn in high tide in the ocean so its very difficult to be dragged out to sea with tons of waves crashing over you and your eyes and throat burning from salt. But I wil admit, also kind of fun. Sadly though, yesterday was supposed to be the third and final lesson where I was on the board, and there was no wind all morning and then I had to leave. Very sad.
Of course we were doing nothing just waiting for the wind, but somehow my instructor still did not get me to the bus on time so we had to chase it down by speeding on his truck over these crazy dirt roads. I definitely had visions of us skidding out of control, but did manage to chase down the bus and yell at it to pull over. I got many strnage looks when I got on! (Also, I use the term "bus" loosely. It was really this giant 4x4 type vehicle. I am making sure to take pictures of all the funny 4x4 vehicles I have been in over the past week!)
I also had a funny experience meeting these 2 Brazilian guys who are travelling the entire coast of Brazil by windsurfing. They started almost a year ago down on the border of Uruguay and think they will be finished in 2 more months. They are carrying all of their stuff with them in waterproof backpacks. They are going to be in the Guiness Book of World Records! This American guy I was hanging out with ended up interviewing them for a magazine (his friend owns American Windsurfer magazine) and I took the photo so I might get a photo credit in the magazine!
