The rest of the time in Ilha Grande was amazing. On my second day there, the rain thankfully cleared up and I did a 3 hour hike with a bunch of people from the hostal through the rain forest to this amazing beach called Lopez Mendez. Its very remote and no boats can even get there and its this beautiful streatch of pristine beach. Then the next day I got in some diving with some of the people from the hostal. Very beautiful diving and I was glad that I hadn't forgotten how to dive! (Some pics of the day can be found here: http://www.danchalk.com/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=19&page=1) I also basically got adopted by these 2 british women, Lucy and Kaye, who were so nice and let me tag along with them while I was there and I ended up sharing a room with them too. And I met a bunch of other nice people there too so it was kind of hard to leave. That's one of the problems with travelling alone-- its very difficult to move on when you have met nice fun people to hang out with!

But I did end up leaving Ilha Grande yesterday via ferry back to the mainland and then a 7 hour bus ride to Sao Paulo. AK's sister Monika has a friend Kiko who lives here and we had been emailing about Brazil info and he offered up his place for me to stay last night. So nice of him to do that, and I was so excited to stay in an apartment for a night!

I was pretty tired when I got here but I decided I should rally and go out since I actually knew someone here to go out with. Everyone has told me that you really need to know someone to show you around Sao Paulo so how could I turn that down? We went out to meet Kiko's sister and some of her friends for dinner and I was excited to see the scene here in SP. So we get to the very Brazilian restaurant... Applebee's. I was very amused to be having a Fajita Chicken salad at Applebee's with a bunch of Brazilians. It was a fun night although I really wasn't able to follow the Portuguese conversation. I think it was for the best though since I was really too tired to participate in any sort of conversation. Today Kiko is going to show me around the city and then tonight I head out on the overnight bus to Igacu Falls.
