After a couple hour drive to Nelson in the morning, we had most of the day to hang around the city of Nelson. A few of us walked up to the Christ Church Cathedral, which is at the end of the main road (Trafalgar) and had lunch. In the afternoon, we walked to the geographic centre of NZ on the edge of the city. It is at the top of a hill, which provided good views of the region, all the way to Abel Tasman NP and the Marlborough Sounds. Our South Island weather streak has been perfect - 17 days of sun, no rain and great temperatures! Nelson is also the sunniest spot in NZ. For our last night on the South Island, we had a huge delicious BBQ; steak, lamb, sausages...
