Hi my name is Justin Cormack, I am 25 years old and I am an amphitheartecholic. I have been sitting and sleeping in ancient ruined amphitheatres for 3 days straight now and I just cannot stay away. It began with Petra, then Amman and now Jerash. I just sit there for hours doing nothing, but reading, updating my journal and watching and talking too people.

There are people like this man all over the world, please help them out by donating (preferably English pounds or US dollars) to the "Justin Cormack Travel Bank Account".........

************************

Yeah, the whole amphitheatre thing is great. Spent the day yesterday at Jereash which is an old Roman (250AD) type ruins about 1.5 hours from Amman. As there were little tourists there had the whole place to myself and spent alot of time just wondering around aimlessly taking photos and listening to the one minidisk I had in my player. Actually the local policeman thought it was quite amusing watching me forget where I was just start singing (in my crap voice) out loud whilst searching through ruins. A very relaxing day in all. As there were no busses running until late afternoon, I was able to hitch a ride back to Amman in about 2 minutes.... not the most comfortable ride, but I guess travellers without transport cannot be choosers.

Today I was meant to go to the Dead Sea for float (not a swim), but the weather has turned very hot and mucky and with me leaving tomorrow thought I would kick back and read my book and do nothing.... well that is what I thought until the locals see me sitting alone and decided to come and chat. Subjects covered - Australia and Kangaroos, Palestine issues, Soccer and the whole Iraq thing.

If by any chance if Mr George Bush is reading my journal (which I assume he is since he is on the mailing list) - be very careful before taking out Iraq because there are some very angry Islamic people who even though they do not like Iraq's way, the are still part of the Middle East and maaaaan do they stick together! Jordanian people are lovely and highly recommend Jordan to anyone thinking about travelling through Middle East!

Oh by the way, I previously mentioned as a travel tip, that you should buy a cheap packet of cigarettes for tipping etc. Well if you are non-smoker - ignore that tip!

I am serious about the tip thing, I give out cigarettes to the locals I meet who help me out or let me taste some of their food in the shop and they expect me to have a cigarette with them. Once I declined they guy and he got really pissed off. So the catch is if you give 4 guys cigarettes, you get 4 back and you have to smoke them on the spot while drinking coffee that is as thick as syrup - so you do not sleep for 3 days.

To make matters worse, just because you are being nice and they take a liking to you - you are then invited back to a 'men's only' cafe (not what you think) to smoke more cigarettes and sheesa and play backgammon where, if you count the pieces out on the board instead of knowing where they go - you are told off! So not only will I not sleep for the next 4 years, I will die of cancer... all in the name of being friendly... give me a break!

Anyway take care and thanks for everyone's emails about my journal, knowing that both of you are reading it makes it worthwhile! As it has been 12 hours since my last hit of Amphitheatre and I might just wonder over and do nothing...... Jay
