If the boat flips over you will need to swim under and grab the safety rope - piece of shit.... - said the rafting guide!

Hello Again from Zimbabwe and Zambia as I have crossed the border about 15 times today across the mighty Zambezi river. Yep time to understand the techniques to some White Water Rafting!!! What a day - in short, nearly drowned, our crew were held at gunpoint and our stuff stolen.... interested? Read on...

It was a cold and stormy day - actually it was one of the most perfect days I have had seen in a long time, the bus picked us up at 7:30am and headed off to their local office to sign our "We are not responsibile for your death" forms and a basic saftey procedure. Then on the bus to the trip to the gorge.... the walk down the canyon was intense - it reminded me of the 6 hour walks in Nepal - except this time I had a life jacket and was carrying a frickn paddle.

Into the boats and more saftey lesson and then onto our rapids. The first rapid a basic grade 3 rapid got the blood going and all accounted for in the boat. As we hit the 2nd lot named the 3 ugly sisters - we hit quote "a freak wave" - which launched the raft in the air - now at this time in a movie, you would see everything in slow mo and starting rememebering all the wonderful things of life - well truth be all I remember is the fucking boat landed on my head upside down. So here I am under the boat - taking litres of water and implementing "shit my pants saftey procedure" and then confirm that I am going to drown!

Fantically trying to find the safety rope and some air without gulping more Zambezie water. So as I get my grib to the safety rope, I loook up and all I see is the guide ipping the boat over again upright; once again I am but under the goddam boat (think I have been here before)! This time I am knocked away and caught in a whirlpool which takes me under and up, under and up etc etc. As I look up there is a safety rope coming my way - thank christ I am exhausted!!

Back on the boat and everyone has a laugh about it. The rest of the rapids were as fierce but there was no way I was going to thown off - this river might be the wildest river in the world - but it really pissed me off!

As we got to the finish and started to climb up the gorge we reach the top were we get some nice cold beers to find that only 25 mins before hand the crew that was setting everything up on the gorge were ransacked by 3 masked men with machine guns - they took all of our valuables. Luckily for the 6 guys I am with we decided to leave EVERYTHING back at camp - so 1 girl lost a T-Shirt - a number of other rafters lost passports etc.. Police are trying to restrieve everything again - the funny thing is that we spent about an extra 30 mins playing volley ball at lunch - hmmmm scary. But everyone was safe! Watching the video later tonight....

Alrighyt getting tired typing and getting very hungry - Buffalo, warhog and crocidille is all on the menu tonight. Off to Chobe National Park tomorrow - where the mosquito net can get a work out. Until then be safe .

A khoon a matata... what a wonderful day...
