Where I stayed
I probably couldn't have picked Estonia out on a map before this trip but I'm glad we took the time to visit this tiny Balkian country. The process Estonia went through to win their independence from the former Soviet Union was one of great courage and was fueled by fierce national pride. We watched the movie documentary of their fight for independence called "The Singing Revolution" to get a better understanding of the country.
Getting here...We took a ferry from Helsinki and arrived in Tallinn in about 1 1/2 hours. It is like stepping way back in time. The old town section of Tallinn is said to be one of the best preserved in Europe. We took a guided tour and then sat on the main square to have a drink and soak it all in.
We are staying at an amazing hotel called the Telegraff, which is within the medieval walls and enjoyed a wonderful dinner here accompanied by a trio playing Tchaikovsky.
