Where I stayed
Birmingham Jewellery Quarter
Only a short walk from Birmingham's famous Bullring and the city centre, The Jewellery Quarter is a vibrant area which dates back over 250 years and is still home to over 400 jewellery businesses. But more than this, the quarter is the place to eat, drink, shop and live, with many bars, restaurants and trendy living spaces for those seeking a friendly village like community. The area is steeped in history with hundreds of listed buildings, including St. Pauls Church, built in 1779 and set in the last remaining Georgian Square and the gateway to the Quarter. This peaceful square is surrounded by some of Birmingham’s finest restaurants, bars, cafes and apartments.
Visitors to the area should take the time to meander around the back streets to discover the true beauty of its architecture and character, with its historic cemeteries, galleries and museums
If you are thinking of studying in the area, the Quarter is the home to Europe’s largest School of Jewellery, offering courses from introductory classes, short courses right up to Ph.D. research degrees. The RBSA also run a variety of summer workshops and demonstrations for adults and children.
Looking for something a little different? Why not visit Fellows Auctioneers, the Quarter’s specialist jewellery auction house? Fellows & Sons hold regular auctions selling antique, second hand and modern jewellery, watches and antique furniture.
Above all Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter is a haven for anyone with a love of jewellery, whether you are looking for the perfect diamond engagement ring, a unique hand- made piece or the perfect gift for that special person in your life. Make time to stroll around the many specialist jewellery retailers where you’ll be spoilt for choice. Even better, why not stay overnight in one of the local hotels and enjoy some fine dining and entertainment? Nearby hotels include the Travel Lodge on Newhall Street, an Express by Holiday Inn on Lionel Street, or for sheer indulgence treat yourself to a room at the boutique Hotel Du Vin
Whatever you are looking for, the Jewellery Quarter Birmingham offers unique attractions, top class restaurants and bars, and fine quality shopping with a difference - all within a short walking distance.
