aahh yes. Salvador de Bahia. i arrived here on wednesday from fortaleza after a 24 hour bus ride. and to be honest that bus was probably the best bus i have ever been on. no one on board, comfy bed seats, and most of all..it was fast! hahah

anyway i arrived here to pelourinho, which is the historical part of town, and even though it is super touristy it is absolutely beautiful. so much history here, and especially a lot of history with the slave trade right here in this part of town. Salvador is Brasils oldest city, and the main slave trade city to brasil, if not south america. the city is huuuuge, a lot bigger than i imagined....3 million people live here!! so you can only imagine, its a huge city. here in pelourino its really nice, colorful, old, historical, and lively part of the city. just like sao luis, you hear music coming from all directions at all parts of the day, and especially at night there are many people who play in the streets. Salvador has a really strong African culture and population, so the music and food and culture you see every where is really african influenced, and it is amazing to see how well preserved it all is. from a percussionist point of view, this is paradise!

here at my hostel i have me some cool people, and we pretty much just wonder around and walk the streets of salvador, enjoying the chaos and happyness of the poeple here. i mostly like to leave the pelourinho part of town because it is so touristy, and i go into the more local parts of town to really see how people live here in Salvador. i love to walk into small random restaurants or cafes and sit there and talk with the locals about anything and everything. my portuguese has really improved after being here in brasil for a month now, so thats cool because at first it was fustrating not to be able to talk with the local people.

i have reached the last city of my travels, teusday i have a flight booked to go home and to be honest im pretty excited about it. yeah its going to be sad to leave the traveling life, and the people you meet on the road, and the experiences and the culture. but its time to go home and finish somethings i have to do, work and save up for the next journey, where ever that may be.

today i am leaving the city to go camping for a few nights so that i can escape this big city stress and relax in nature for the last few days of the trip, andto really meditate and enjoy the peacefulness that this place has to offer. i will go north to this town called arembepe, and hopefully find something nice.

see you soon!
