A day at the beach today. We figured that when in the Caribbean, you must go swimming at the beach. We took a ships shuttle bus tour to Seven Mile Beach. Lovely white Corral sand, hot sun and blue, blue clear water. The tour included a deck chair, sun umbrella and cold drinks. We swam and lazed and read a book, then swam some more. A lovely few hours. On our return to the port area we walked the foreshore and the shops.

Grand Cayman is a very wealthy British Colony, administered by the Jamaicans. it is also a tax haven. There are huge amounts of Grandiose Hotels, grand shopping centers, classy condominiums and beautiful beaches. A lot of building is going on after the damage from Hurricane Ivan a couple of years ago. The island is predominantly Lime stone which is porous, so there are no rivers or streams. Fresh water is carefully conserved, and any low runoff gives coastal waters a deep indigo hue. Living coral reefs surround the island and the area is one of the worlds best dive sites, with many ship wrecks to dive on.
