Fabulous weather today a temperature of around 18oC. What a pretty place. The city is built around a wide bay. Most of the housing is built on the hillsides in multi colours. They use very old Funicular railways (16 of them) to climb the very steep hills all over the City. There are two distinct sections. Valpro is much larger and older. Almost entirely residential. Then there is the orderly coastal section called Vina del Mar. This area is a resort area with beautiful coastal beaches.

Today we ventured out on foot. A very busy place with markets everywhere. If you have things to sell, even your old wares, you just lay down a blanket and set up shop. We both felt a little vulnerable in these places, as we have been warned of tourists being robbed. A policeman stopped us and made us put our camera away in our bag. With the policeman's help (no English), we boarded a little local mini bus and screamed around the fore shores windy roads to Vina del Mar. This is a touristy area and quite beautiful with long golden beaches. The sea spray can cause a lot of damage here as the city faces straight out to the Pacific Ocean. There are big Pelicans perched everywhere.
