Have you ever wondered where the blog title - Miffy On Tour - came from?  Miffy was a Valentine present from John to me in 2010 when we were in Sydney, on our previous trip. We had been searching for presents for new baby Matilda- now a big girl of 3!  Ned was sent on a mission to buy it so it was a real surprise.  Miffy took pride of place on the dashboard during that trip and has now returned to the home country to do the same again.  Ahhhhhhhh!

In last weeks blog there was a photo titled 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'. It was actually at Hanging Rock, just north of Melbourne, location of the famous book written in the 60's by Australian author Joan Lindsay.  She was married on St Valentines day, so the day was special to her, and she set the events of the book on that day.  I'm in the process of reading it - I believe it has a strangely ambiguous ending...  Hanging Rock is an interesting place - an old volcanic mamelon (magma) worn into columns. It was also a reputed refuge for bush rangers.

We have come south now - back to the coast.  We couldn't drive the Great Alpine Road as it's still closed due to the bush fire.  We drove a different way, further east, where the views were still pretty spectacular, and the road equally so.  It wasn't sealed all the way - about 20Km is still gravel road which they are in the process of making up.  It didn't make much difference to us as we were going so slowly anyway due to the bends and steepness!  We spent a couple of nights at Swifts Creek, a sweet little town in the mountains, but during the course of the second day the wind changed direction and the smoke came our way.  You could smell it in the air and see it on the van!

No Valentines pressies today!  There's no escape from each other and Ned isn't here to do the job!  We may have lunch out if we find a good place to go.

Happy Valentines.

It all still looks wonderful. You are so lucky! To drive along roads and create a dust storm must be wonderful compared to driving along any country road here and creating a mud shower. The poor old hens are living in the equivalent of the Somme after 3 years of war but hey! enough of the winging - the sun shone today and it didn't rain!!! There's hope yet!
