We are here in hot sunny Darwin after long but very straightforward flights.  The first flight from Heathrow to Singapore was seriously empty and we had a row of 3 seats each to sleep on!!  The only problems we encountered were a missing flight engineer at Singapore, which held us up for forty minutes, and a seemingly non-existent shuttle bus at Darwin airport at 3am, which we solved by getting a taxi with a very chatty driver.  Even had time for a shower at Singapore airport  - actually we had time for a lot more but never mind, we were in travelling mode and not to be downhearted! The hostel is good –a bit heavy on young German men tonight, but generally a good introduction to hostels for me.  John thinks it’s 5* compared with India. We have fridge and kettle in our room, the bathrooms are very clean and the kitchen is OK.  And it’s quiet.I’ve been a bit jet lagged – more so than John – so we have had an easy couple of days.  Sorted banks and phones and been to look for vehicles.  Thursday evening we went to a beach market which had a huge selection of, mostly Asian, food stalls (we had Paella!) and craft stalls.  Also street entertainers and musicians.  Great fun on a balmy evening.  (bastards!)John has been strangely quiet with his camera but we will have some photos soon I’m sure.
