My last day at the beach was really nice. I went out for Christmas Eve dinner with a bunch of people that I had met from the US. Everyone pigged out on lobster! Goodbye to Puerto Viejo -- it's so relaxing here, I could stay for a long time and not mind one bit. Christmas morning at 7am, I was on the public bus for the first time. Some say they would never travel on the public bus but it was really no big deal - pretty comfy and dirt cheap ($7 back to San Jose - 4 1/2 hour ride).

I was invited to have Christmas dinner with all the Canadian and American 'orphans' living in Costa Rica. What a feast! There was enough food to feed most of Escazu! And then the guys started with the fireworks (and of course, boys love blowing things up!). Everyone is so crazy about fireworks in this country. The guy who hosted has a gorgeous house overlooking a community called Santa Ana. It was one amazing view and we could see the odd fireworks going off down below! The party was all fun until the shrubs and grass caught fire and they had to haul coolers of water to put it out. Boys will be boys!
