Well, I moved into my (new) friend's place in Escazu which is the opposite part of town from Tres Rios. It's a suburb of San Jose as well, up in the mountains and is like little America. This is where all the expats flock to.

Just hung out with Bruce and his friends this weekend, which was nice to just relax while transitioning to my next destination. Spent some time at my favorite waterhole, "The Pub" today and hung out with the other Winnipeger, Chris until Bruce finished work. Saturday we went out to a farm near by where Bruce and some of his friends have horses. I haven't really been around horses that much, but this was pretty cool to just hang out in the stables and have a BBQ. Sunday, didn't do much and I was supposed to be off to Puerto Viejo early Monday morning. HOWEVER......

I woke up Monday morning with a big headache, major sore throat, big-time nausea and what I think was a high fever. I was shivering and sweating all night... I think it's a fever. There was no way I was getting in a van and driving for 4 hours. I get car sick at the best of times. I couldn't stand up for more than 3 minutes without feeling nauseous, so I cancelled and veg'd all day. I guess I should feel lucky cuz I've been on the road for 6 1/2 weeks and haven't had any kind of illness at all.

So Tuesday morning, the van was leaving a nearby hotel at 6:15am. I think I can - I think I can.... I had to if I was going to get out to the beach!!! I drugged up on Gravol, cough candies in hand and off I go. The cab driver totally ripped me off but I didn't realize it until much later... remember, I was out of it!! I can't believe I didn't notice but the bugger charged me about $30 for a 10 minute ride. You have to watch these guys - they're not honest! I've heard so many stories like this. The meter was running but I wasn't really paying attention - I was concentrating on not puking in his cab. I feel really stupid now but at the time because I'm comfortable with the money now... I just wasn't thinking.

So I'm now in Puerto Viejo which is a little community on the Caribbean. As soon as I got here, I went for a walk around town to get familiar but couldn't handle it and went back to my room for a nap. For those who know me well, you know I don't nap! I might miss something! Well, I napped and sweat some more.

Puerto Viejo is a cute little place with an Afro-Caribbean influence and you can hear reggae and calypso music playing in the restaurants and bars. Bob Marley is popular here! I did dip my toes in the ocean which was really warm and clear. I love the Caribbean! I just tried to have some lunch and just couldn't do it. What is happening to me -- no appetite! That's so not like me! Tomorrow's another day and I'm sure the beach will still be there. I just hope I'm back up to 100%!! Hate wasting time being down for the count!
