We visited the National Theatre in San Jose on Wednesday which is a really pretty old theatre in the center with more marble than you can imagine! "The Nutcracker" starts there this weekend and plays throughout the Christmas season. We also visited the Mercado San Jose in the center which is a huge market in the middle of the downtown. The only thing I really had my eye on were a few duffle bags. :) But you can buy anything there from hand-crafts to fresh fish (no, I didn't pick any up)
Took the bus home from downtown and am getting pretty comfortable with this "public-transport" thing. The driver looked exactly like Marc Anthony, right down to the little dark eyeglasses. I didn't see J-Lo anywhere though. The whole public transport system is weird here though. There are bus stops -- I mean actual stops that are identified as such and even us tourists would know it's a bus stop. But then you get into the residencial areas and they don't exist. People just have to know where it is. If you want to get off, you just push the stop button and he stops. Now if you want to GET ON the bus, you better know where the unidentified stops are or you better be a female wearing shorts (btw, all drivers here are men). Otherwise, I'm not sure if they'll stop for you if you're not on the correct piece of dirt on the side of the street. Buses are so cheap here though - only 36 cents - so who cares. Another thing that is odd, is there are no schedules. They're not printed... they just don't exist. Maybe this is how they keep that price down!!
I've spent many waking minutes this week scratching the bites I got last weekend at the beach. Some type of critter had my legs for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I even had to buy some anti-itch lotion which of course barely works. I have never been this bitten up and I'm from Manitoba!!! More deet please!
