I've spent the whole weekend just settling in, doing laundry and sleeping. Laundry was interesting. Rosa has a semi-auto machine; I'm not that unfamiliar with one but haven't used on in many years. The rinsing is by hand and you hang to dry in a very tiny backyard where the killer dogs are.. what fun. Because of the humidity, it takes a long time for things to dry here too.

The internet cafe is just around the corner from Rosa's house, and it's cheap too! Only 85 cents (Cdn) an hour but it's very busy with these young guys playing computer games.... why pay to sit and play computer games!! Oh well.

In the middle of the night, I went to the bathroom and when I turned on the light, I saw a little "critter" scurry across the floor. GREAT. I have to be honest - I don't know what a cockroach looks like so it could have been one or maybe a beetle. I'm going with beetle!!!! Of course, I couldn't fall back asleep.

Sunday evening, Rosa's other son, Juan and his family came over for dinner and Pablo's birthday (cumpleaņos) and we all sang "happy birthday" (I sang in English).

I went for a few walks in the neighborhood over the weekend and am still struggling with all the security around here. Everyone seems to be all caged in!!! I asked Juan and Pablo and they explained that it's just the way of life in Tres Rios... just the way the houses are. I don't think I like it.
