Kichanga Lodge has many similarities to La Vita E Bella in Tulum. Romantic bungalows along an expansive white sand beach sprinkled with coconut palms. The water colour is brilliant turquoise with a large reef offshore with breaking white surf. The dining room and lounge bar is a large palapa but it has a cement floor, not sand. There is a lovely salt water pool. I cant do my daily long walks along the beach because at high water the waves lap up to seemingly cantilouvred limestone cliffs. Weve been enjoying a variety of seafood dinners, crab, octupus, squid, white snapper, all delicious.
A bit of deja vu yesterday as well as we travelled to an offshore sandbank for a snorkelling adventure. We motored out in beautiful wooden dhous to a spot where the dolphins froliked around us. We then carried on to a mangrove lagoon and then to another island where we had a delicious lunch of lobster, fish, calamari and a sampling of many local fruits including a new one for me, jackfruit. In truly civilized fashion we ended the feast with a sake sized cup of expresso with Wild African Cream, a liquer much like baileys. While the fish we saw werent as colourful as some |ve seen they were certainly plentiful. Ive never snorkelled through clouds of jellyfish..........received numerous stings, but very mild. Trevor, you would have loved the coral.......blue, yellow. purple and such a variety of types.
We must have totally recovered from our climb as Im finding it hard to propel myself off the couch today. We leave this afternoon for Nairobi for the final third of our adventure .....a safari.
Colds, coughs and expected tropical revenges are subsiding. Thats all for now

Remember not to feed the animals on the safari. STAY ON THE BICYCLE. And make sure it has at least 10 speeds and inflated tires. (or even upgrade to a Land Rover). Otherwise I'll be a lonely guy in December @ Holguin. (Read your E-mail for details).
Joyce is supposed to check that you don't get in the pool with the Ron-gai.
If you adopt a Tanzanian, bring one home old enough to do immediate housework.
Enjoy the seafood fest in Zanzibar. Sounds so wonderful that I'm cruising the fridge for a little anchovy paste to enhance my sardine lunch !
Take care, love you, Richard
