Where I stayed
This morning, we took down our tent and packed everything up and headed to Mary's with Fenna and Annie. Today is Central America's Halloween!
We said goodbye to Fenna and Annie after helping with a bit of animal care since Fenna is fairly new and she had to teach Annie. Then we took our time to say goodbye to the animals and Mary and Pipo loaded us into a car with them and took us to Montezuma in her taxi with Nonyo, her driver I met last summer. We checked out a few hostels prices but they were all $10 or more. Once we said goodbye to Mary and Pipo, we hit the town in search of more hostels. We finally just settled in at El Tucan since it had a big room and private bathroom for the same price as the others. I got a nice lunch of nachos in bean dip and a chicken sandwich and hot chocolate before getting a few groceries for dinner. Pipo had made papaya jam for us so we used that on a loaf of bread later as our dinner. After a much needed power nap, we walked the beach!
It was just how I remember it. Full of logs and driftwood in the beginning open area and with grayish sand and a bit rocky with dirty foam water. This was also due to rainstorms coming through so it looked somewhat gross. But the waves were Big and there was a giant wolf-looking dog following us who apparently loves the water as he bound over to two girls riding a wave on their boogie boards and scaring them half to death. When the dog turned around and started bounding toward us we could tell why they had been so scared! He was massive and charged at you but we knew he was friendly. He played with a coconut, throwing it across the beach and then chasing it. He tried to play with us with the coconut but that thing was NOT a pleasant toy.
We set up a picnic with our papaya jam sandwiches and drinks atop a small cliff-like area overlooking the beach and a cloudy sunset. Later, we were still hungry and the jam was fermenting so we went out for pizza and ordered a coke each, thinking we would get a full glass of coke and not knowing the price but figuring it to be around $1 like everywhere else. We were handed a little coke can and it turned out to be $2 each! I left for the grocery store while waiting for our pizza to come and bought us each an iced tea, which were each not even $1 and twice the size of the coke can. After pizza, we sat in the park on the swings in the dark and talked about all we had done so far. I mentioned earlier how I was sad that I am missing my favorite season, Fall. While on the swings looking out at a mango tree, two of its yellow leaves fell to the ground and Mike yelled "JOY! LOOK! Quick its Fall!!!" HAHhaha yay!
Back to the hotel to sleep and it felt great that we didnt have to walk through the muddy Rainsong path or worry about who's around that could look in on you while showering or peeing. I was also thankful for a toilet I could sit down on!
