Where I stayed
Alajuela Backpackers Hostel

Once I had a bus from being dropped off at the ferry, I arrived in Alajuela and found the same hostel my mom and I had stayed in, Alajuela Backpackers. It was a very different experience on my own. I was shown to a room with two bunkbeds. Other people had some of their belongings on beds so I took over a lower bunk and went out to explore Alajuela on my own and find something to eat. The roads were all semi confusing as I'm not from a city, quite the opposite in fact, and have little sense of direction, but I finally came across a chicken restaurant similar to KFC. I normally would not have gone for this type of food, so Americanized, while in another country. But the smell and my hunger got the best of me and so I proceeded to enjoy what felt like the best chicken I've ever had. I went out to a roadside stand and bought a few of those sweet mini banana/plantain things as well, to make up for my Americanized food eatings.

When I got back to the hostel dorm from exploring, I heard someone in the shower. I sat on my bunk and started finishing up my required internship diary entries. The shower stopped and out came a Swedish woman, topless, eager to shake my hand and introduce herself. "Oh heyyyyyy...." Right at that moment a second Swedish woman came into the room for introductions. This one had a shirt thankfully. They were travel partners, traveling for 5 months and about to go home. I then found myself alone until three Asians came to move in and bunk with me. They were all around my age, and Biology/Doctor majors so I could at least kind of relate to them with my wildlife biology background. They were really friendly and great to talk to, though I was soon exhausted and fell right to sleep.

Early in the AM the next day I woke up, got a shuttle to the airport from the hostel, and boarded my flight home with an eager smile and a few souvenirs!!!!!
