While interning at Rainsong, I met Molly, Amber, and Sherri (and later Jen and Christa) and we all became extremely close. Some knew each other and came together but I found it Very easy to join them in activities, they were all so friendly and welcoming. Its amazing how fast you can get close to others while traveling. I felt as if I had known a few of these girls for practically my entire life.

Mary gave us weekends off, where we hopped a bus in town that comes by the nearest grocery store and headed to Montezuma nearly each weekend. We also went to the Cabo Blanco Nature Preserve, about a ten-fifteen minute walk from town, and checked out Cemetary Island nearby as well.

Montezuma is a neat little town, touristy but with plenty of locals as well. The ocean side/beach is beautiful in areas though the entrance was filled with logs and sticks. There are tons of street vendors and small cafes and eateries.

We heard of this freshwater waterfall that runs into the ocean and decided to try to walk the beach to get to it. What we hadnt planned was high tide times and how far away it would be. It was quite the adventure actually! Of course it was high tide but we decided to press onward. So off we set into the coastline of calf-high water where we stumbled over large trees that had fallen into the ocean and were washing up and down the shore. One huge trunk washed up near me and I walked over it forgetting it would just come back to me with the water and it knocked me on my butt and rolled under me before I knew what happened! We forged so many piles of these washed up trunks and through deep waters and course sinking sand. Quite a workout! We even had to climb into a part of the forest through cacti and sharp needley plants to avoid a part of the beach we couldnt otherwise get around! VERY amusing at the time. When we finally saw this waterfall, maybe a 15 minute walk away, we didnt even care about getting to it anymore. This walk had taken about 2 and 1/2 hours already and we were done. It was also lookin' brown and reversing tourists said it wasnt worth it.

So we rid of our daypacks and swam right then and there. Forget walking to the waterfall! We saw it, we were set. It was a funny story to tell the other volunteers about our huge adventure and then tell them we never even got to the waterfall after all of our trials.

Another time, we discovered the Montezuma Falls. A local was nearby and showed us how to get to them, he even came with us a bit of the way and helped us across some slippery areas. We hiked up this huuugely steep path at the second waterfall, the tallest one, and onward to a few others we had heard about. Halloween crabs were falling from the ledges of the path onto the rest of us walking behind Amber who went first.

We walked through a field and found we were above the ocean, it was absolutely beautiful. There were tons of these little plants called touch-me-nots that close up their leaves when you brush past them. We headed to the last waterfall, where we swam in seclusion (some of the girls freely said 'Screw the baithing suits!' and luckily nobody else found this waterfall too haha). There was a neat circular rock hole filled with runoff water that looked like a mini natural hot tub! Definitely a good trip.

There was also an absolutely amazing day where we hiked a path near the lodgehouse of Mary's property to private falls on her grounds. They were the most beautiful falls I had ever seen here! They were tucked away in the jungle and made of this weird feeling rock material, not sure what it was but it was all of a light tan color and you could follow the levels upstream to a larger waterfall to climb up it, with tons of little pools and mini falls in between. We found a scorpion chillin out on one of the ledges of a mini fall! It was an incredibly wild place to discover!
