Where I stayed
In addition to hiking and driving the Cherohala Skyway, we enjoyed driving the winding scenic country roads to get to the trailheads. Coming from South Florida, it renewed our enjoyment of driving once again!
With all the comforts of home plus a dynamite porch overlooking Santeetlah Lake and the mountains beyond, we would sit on our porch at the Blue Boar Inn where we had rented a cottage and just breathe in the country air and hang. The Blue Boar Inn is a bed and breakfast that is reached via a gravel forest service road that closely follows the contours of the lake. The Inn offers both rooms in the inn as well as cottages. They have kayaks that can be used to enjoy the lake as well as gourmet breakfasts and dinners. It’s a friendly warm place and we highly recommend it! The photos below were taken on the grounds of the Blue Boar Inn.
Graham County and the Blue Boar Inn was right for us – we like naturally scenic areas with not a lot of commercialism and hubbub. This quiet corner in the mountains of North Carolina is a hidden gem!
