Turns out the trip isn't over. :)

I spoke with work and we realized that it was mutually beneficial if I waited until January to return to work. So I'm getting a couple more weeks of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation... in Missouri!

I opted to sublease a cute, little apartment in midtown St. Louis for 2 weeks so I could visit friends and family and maybe take the opportunity for solitude to reflect on my trip and see what other nuggets of learning I could glean from it. If I come up with any good ones I'll be sure to share. My mom says that I really am just desperate to have my own place again. She might be right as I spent the first day rearranging the kitchen appliances on the counter, moving this lamp here and that lamp there and otherwise marking my Josie territory. What can I say, I know where I like things to be for me to be happy.

On Sunday I went to mass at the St. Louis (new) Cathedral Basilica. You have to clarify "new" or "old" because the original cathedral is still in use and situated directly under the mid-day shadow of the Arch by the riverfront. While it is lovely, the new Cathedral is absolutely spectacular. Its walls play host to the largest collection of religious mosaics, IN THE WORLD. Way to go St. Louis. Impressive. And boy is it impressive inside. I absolutely loved being a tourist in what I consider my hometown. Walking around the Central West End made me see the city through a whole different lens. Literally. I have photos to post.

So the journey for me continues. For this leg of the trip I shouldn't encounter any language barriers, cultural taboos or have anybody look at me as "the stupid American." However, I am still going to get to see beautiful churches, world-famous landmarks and eat delightful food. I encourage everybody to go out this week with their camera and walk for 20 minutes around your favorite neighborhood with the mindset of a visiting tourist. I bet you'll be amazed at the new discoveries you find or the little things you never stopped to appreciate before. I'm anxious to see what other delights will surprise me in St. Louis.
