And I'm off to Nice next, which apparently is also a beach. Here is what I can't get over. I LOVE THE SEA! By the sea, by the sea, by the beautiful sea...
I went swimming again today! And this time not just sort of getting in the water, marveling at the fact I was in the water, then getting out. Like actually swam around for probably 10 minutes! The best part was that I didn't have a towel. I had been laying out (on the solarium of the castle roof, of course) earlier in the day, so had my suit on. And had just decided to throw on a dress over it and head into town for lunch. I got to the beach and stood calf-deep. Then I sat on the beach. Then I said, "Who needs a towel, I'll air dry! This chick is going swimming."
Then I took the bus home, thank goodness, because the hill to get home is a killer. And last night, because I'm an idiot, not only did I not check the last bus departure time and so missed it, I also walked home the long way, making me walk up about 70 - 90 stairs to the train station only to walk down a hill that deposited me a mere 50 feet from where I had started. And then I had the joy of walking up the steps to my street and then the hill to my hotel and then the stairs to the entrance. I know. No sympathy. I get it.
Yesterday I did a quick trip to Portofino. I have to say, I wasn't blown away. I only spent an hour or two there, but honestly I forced myself to do stay that long! I still hadn't picked up batteries for my 'exhausted' camera, so when I arrived I walked all around the downtown area. Actually, when I arrived I had to sit on a bench for 5 minutes figuring out where the town must be, because NOBODY was on the streets. So then I got to the harbor, and it's cute. And Gucci and Prada and Dolce and all their friends were right there ready to empty your bank account. But that was kind of it. The boats all smooshed together in the harbor was kind of cool and I loved watching the waves lap back and forth against the rocks. And there were lots and lots of fish in the water, and the people-watching was decent. But genuinely, nothing I'd go back for. So, when on my way back to the shuttle bus I found a place that sold batteries (and you can imagine they were SUPER cheap, yeah right) I begrudgingly went back and took quick snaps of everything I thought you kind folks would want to see. That's how much I care about you. :)
So here are snaps from Portofino and the ride between there and here, as well as a few I took last night with the moon and the angry, stormy water. I had to hold myself back from walking on to the break wall to let the fury surround me. And yes, these photos probably don't do justice to the waves. They're not like ocean waves, they're like sea waves. Which I guess are like salty lake waves?
