WE got to Barcelona around 8:00 pm and got a taxi into the city to our pension. People do not speak English in Spain as freely as in other parts of Europe so I had to used my very limited and rusty spanish skills to get us checked into our room. We were the only guests staying there, and the place was family run, with one girl speaking a little English. Overall the room was nice except for the hoard of ally cats that socialized outside our window. Just like in the movies.....the cats hissed and screeched and the dogs answered back.(I have pictures!!)
We headed out to find some dinner and walked down the Gran de Gracia. We settled on a little place that looked cheap. I tried the paella, a traditional Spanish dish of rice topped with seafood, I thought i would be crazy live on the wild side, try something new. In short paella is not my thing, the seafood on top was still in its shells so after you fight to get any meat out there are pieces of crunchy shell mixed in and.....AHH! I can see it is the worst meal Ive had in my entire life....still kind of gives me the chills. Andrew was a little less brave but much smarter and got a sandwich.
Walking back we passed by one of Gaudi's designs. An apartment building, that was his last project before starting on the Sagrada Familia.
