Hello All~

Thursday morning I left Maastricht with April, Reba, and Andrea. We bought a special pass that allows you to take ten train trips within Belgium for forty five euros, (which is a pretty good deal.)Our first destination was Oostende on the coast of Belgium. The water of the North Sea was very brown, and the wind was cold, but this was my favorite destination. Oostende is a seaside village/town with a very successful fishing industry. Beautiful sailboats in the harbor, and wooden boardwalks out over the water. We walked on the beach down to the water and I found some nice seashell souveniors. The atmosphere on the coast is so much different than landlocked Maastricht. Walking down the pier, there were rows of stands selling their fresh catch.
A beautiful church is at the center of the town, it was actually built in around the early 1900's but is built in neo gothic style (which for those of you who are not architect buffs simply means it was built in the gothic style but after the gothic period.) The church had beautiful stained glass windows, and very friendly old man who explained the symbolism within the stained glass to us. I love hearing the "story" of a place. The history is definately interesting, but to hear a intimate story allows you to imagine what others have felt within the same walls.
After a nice cappacino at a little cafe to warm up we went back to the seaside to catch the sunset. We went out on some rocks to take a picture and have the water around us. We went just far enough so that the waves would not reach us, or so we thought. Just as I was about to have my picture taken, I was soaked by a big wave from the knees down, let me tell you, THE NORTH SEA IS COLD!!! Andrea recieved the same surprise so we ran screaming back to shore thinking we would be drowned by a two foot wave...he he he!
Oostende was a beautiful little town, one I will think of with very fond memories!
