After our initial trial here, trying to break a 1000Sk note, we finally managed to get some change and ring Matt's dad, so he could show us where we were staying. He picked us up, and it turned out we had a whole flat to ourselves in the heart of the Old Town, which he duly showed us around. It was in the middle of a renovation though, so there was no kitchen sink, and we couldn't get the shower to run hot, but only minor things really. We crashed until Matt arrived and we went out for dinner, I had a huge bowl of cheesy potato dumplings, a salad and two pints of beer for abotu 4 quid. I could tell this is the sort of place I like, especially afterwards when we went on a semi pub tour which involve sampling a lot of the local brew, including a strange layered beer, which was exceptionally tasty. When we retired for the night we attempted to find out way back but it took a few attempts, as I was slightly drunk, so I couldn't remember the way, neither could John, and we had no map. It ended well eventually though.

The next day we had dirt-cheap lunch in a school cafeteria style establishment, some rice and schnitzel thingy, then we took to the streets. First up was a trek up to the castle, which wasn't all that amazing, and neither was the was the museum it contained, but the views were pretty good, especially as you could look out over the contrast between the sides of the river, Old town on one side, Soviet tower blocks on the other. Spent the rest of the day exploring the Old Town, seeing how many weird and wonderful statues we could spot, including Napoleon and a spy (seperately). Then we went to a mahoosive Tesco for dinner materials. Dinner included an incident of hilarity when I chucked some tomato over the balcony and angry Slovakian shouts arose, so we left it a while before we left for another cheap and slow night out for some good baeer and nice bars.
