Aaahhhh!! We are almost finished with our trip. It seemed to have gone by very quickly considering we have been away for 6 months. We can both hardly wait to be back in the States though. Fiji is the last leg of our trip, not including the horrible 14 hours of flying before we are actually back home. We started the trip here in Fiji on a sort of bad note. I went to an ATM in the downtown district of Nadi, where some sketch-head Fijian cut me in line. I didn't say anything, but as soon as I put my card in the slot and typed my PIN, the electricity conveniently shut off trapping my card inside. I refused to leave the ATM until we got ahold of someone from the back (which was closed) while Fijian McSketch-Head refused to leave the area. He was stocking us from across the street, very obviously waiting until we left. I'm sure as soon as we left the ATM he went back and did something to the ATM to get my money out. Thank God for fraud protection! The bank teller delivered my card to us at our first hotel, but no money... Figures. I think I must have "TOOL" or maybe a big target tattooed on my forehead and I don't yet realize it because these things always seem to happen to me. Anyway, we were only in Nadi for one night and we were both glad to get out of there. It was not a place that we felt we needed to stay for more than a couple of hours.
Luckily for us, Tara (the REAL Priceline Negotiator ((not William Shatner)) found us an amazing deal at the Outrigger here in Fiji. The five-star resort was an amazing end to our trip full of hostel stays with creepy old European men and drunken 18 year old, testosterone-fueled wippersnappers. But, as most five-star resorts tend to have, was ridiculous food prices that we simply cannot afford at this point in our lives. So despite the Outrigger staff actively trying to stop us from leaving the resort by saying that it is not safe for us to eat any Fijian food other than the food that was cooked at the Outrigger, we ventured out and found much cheaper food in the nearby village. It turned out that the village was not nearly as dangerous as the prices here at the resort. It was much more genuine of a place than the resort, with good, cheap food and friendly locals.
We absolutely loved every minute that we have been here on this beautiful island. The locals in the area are very, very friendly. Everyone we saw on and off the resort greeted us with a friendly "Bula!" and a smile, meaning "hello" in Fijian. The weather was very nice and tropical, which was a nice break before we go back to the cold and rainy Northern California weather. We tried to do a scuba dive, but the Outrigger wasn't going to cooperate with our budget, so we just went snorkeling a few days. We saw a vast array of fish, eels, coral snakes, slugs, and other creatures that neither of us had ever seen before in any other place in the world. Tomorrow we are heading to the airport for a 12 hour flight back to Los Angeles and then another 1 hour flight to San Fran. We are both very excited to see our families, friends, puppies, etc. I personally am going to spoon with a box of Cheez-Its, a couple bean burritos from Taco Bell, and an XBOX 360 when I get back for the few days I have before the tedious job search begins. Mmmmm!! This had been an epic trip, but we're very glad that we will be home so soon. See you all soon!
