Where I stayed
While it is a very beautiful island, people don't exactly come here to take in the sights and experience Thai culture. Most of the people here are Europeans and Aussies and they come here for one reason: to party. So instead of an island of nice white beaches and friendly Thai people, we are at an island with beer cans littering the beach and European mullet haircuts everywhere. Business in the front, party in the back!! It has also come to our attention that Phuket must be the place where all of the perverts and pedifiles come to sleaze it up
We have done a lot of relaxing this portion of the trip. One day we took a boat to see some of the smaller islands in the area. We went to Monkey Island and fed some monkeys pieces of fruit and took pictures. We also did some snorkeling in the reef of this island. We saw a really cool cave and stopped on an island, about the size of one acre, for about 2 hours and took in the sights and did some more snorkeling. The ride back from the islands was not a very pleasant one. The wind and rain started coming down a lot harder on the way back which made for some pretty big open-ocean swell. And what made it even worse, was there were about 30 people packed into our medium-sized speed boat. So we didn't exactly have the comfort that we all would have preferred for the long ride. The driver just giggled to himself as mostly everyone on the boat screamed as he sped through the surf. Luckily we were seated in the very back near the motors. The bow of the boat was really bouncing up and down, almost as rough as my rouge horse that I had in Iceland. I'm sure that those people's asses were feeling about as good as mine was after that wonderful Icelandic horseback ride.
The last couple of days, we just hung around
