Our last stop on our very relaxing and food-stocked cruise ship was the historic city of
Olympia. For the few who don't know, Olympia is the city which hosted the first Olympic games. We took a train to Olympia from our port for 2.50 Euro each round trip. Much better than the $70 per person that the ship was trying to get out of everyone. We arrived at the site and spent about two hours visiting mainly the archaeological ruins of
Olympia. Among the ruins was the first Olympic track, Roman baths, a gymnasium, wrestling facilities, and Temples honoring Hera and Zeus the second being one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. We also saw where the Olympic torch is lit every Olympic year before it is ran through many parts of the world. It was a very hot day here appx. 40 degrees Celsius which translates to, I'm not sure, but pretty damn hot! Altogether it was a good experience and we are glad that we didn't overpay to see it.
Afterwards, we went back to the ship in time for its final departure headed back for
Venice. From Venice we head to Rome for a few days, back to horrible prices for food and overpriced...everything. We have a day at sea tomorrow, so I plan to stuff my gullet with as much food as I possibly can so I can pay for as little food as possible once back in Italy. The cruise ship will soon be sorry it ever saw the likes of me!
