Istanbul was a surprise to both of us. It is the only city in the world that is situated on two continents, Europe and Asia. The cruise staff had us a little bit worried about what we should wear and if we can eat anything while in Istanbul because it is Ramadan right now and Turkey is almost entirely composed of Muslims. It turned out to be nothing to worry about at all. All of the Turkish people that we met we very nice and accustomed to us Westerners. Egypt might be a different story though, because we will be traveling through Egypt before the month of Ramadan is over with too. In Istanbul, we took a tour that guided us through many sights such as the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, St. Sofia, the Grand Bazaar, and Bosphorus Strait. All of which were very amazing and beautiful. At the end of our tour we were forced to sit through a Turkish carpet making demonstration, which was a pain, but also interesting. It was more of a sales pitch, but we were able to escape at the end of the presentation and we did score some delicious apple tea. After we finished with the tour and everything else, we headed back to the port and left for Mykanos, Greece.
