We arrived in Athens today. We had booked a tour which was set up for around noon, so we cruised out casually after a late breakfast and going to the gym. On our tour we got to see the Acropolis, the Partheon, the Temple to Athena Nike, the first location of the modern-day Olympics, as well as many other highlights of the city. It was all very interesting. To see these amazing ruins in person after reading about them in textbooks for the past 20 years is really indescribable. Unfortunately, they were trying to restore some of the ruins so there was construction equipment surrounding some of these ruins, but it didn't make much of a difference. There were a number of other people from our cruise on the tour with us, most of them elderly. It was Tara and me and then the rest of them clicking their way to the top of the hill with their canes and walkers. So it took our group almost an hour to walk the 1/4 mile up to the top of the hill where the Acropolis and other sites were. From the top we were able to see the archaeological sites, as well as the entire city of Athens from a whole different perspective. It was really amazing! If anyone is wondering where I got my sweet hat, it is the hat that I haggled for in Venice. Our cruise ship is giving us the amazing deal of internet use while on the ship. Only $60 for a whole 100 minutes!! What a freakin deal! So we are somewhat rushing the production of these blogs, needless to say. We also added pics to our last blogs that we didn't have time for the last two entries. We arrive in Istanbul tomorrow evening and then have the entire next day to explore the city. More to come then.
