Our first day in Zurich we arrived late in the afternoon and didn't have time to do much except shop for some fruit at the co-op. The second day was a bit more interesting. We got up and did a great hike on the top of the surrounding mountains just outside of the city. From there we could see the entire city and all of its surroundings, including the Swiss Alps. After we had finished our hike, we had to change hotels since we had only booked one night at the Marriott. Unfortunately the place we ended up, the Zic Zac Hotel, may have been the worst hotel we had ever seen. Every room had creepy faces of entertainment stars painted on the smoke covered walls. It was located on the Red Light district street of Zurich. Above a strip club and below a bowling alley....... well, maybe not both, but it was above about every bar in town. And Tara and I could not go down and join the party because we couldn't afford to buy the 10 Euro/beer that they were charging at the door, not to mention the 20-30 Euro cover charge. So I hung out the window of our hotel room, with a 6er, and watched people spend $100s of dollars on booze, and out of the other eye watched American Golf translated to German on our Sorny television (Maybe it was a Magnetbox). I don't know how they can even claim that this place is a hotel. Every aspect of the "hotel" screamed hostel, and a super crappy hostel at that. Needless to say steer clear of Zic Zac:) We spent that afternoon sleeping and swimming next to lake Zurich and then hopping the train to Geneva.
