As the Pittsburgh gang left us feeling rather, to use the colloquial phrase, tuckered, the last few days I have spent resting in Nairobi.  This rest has included but has not been limited to a trip to a local water park and an excursion to an ice skating rink, where the low temperatures, presence of ice, and stenciled drawings of log cabins on the walls left me feeling quite at home.
Yesterday I finally managed to sample roasted corn from a roadside vender.  This culinary delight is rather a hit here; it is much the equivalent of popcorn at the cinema, funnel cakes at the fairgrounds, knockwurst at the Germany.
I have also been dilligently reading Against the Day by Mr. Thomas Pynchon and deligently listening to Mr. Tom Waits.  These two gentlemen are true yokefellows to me, comrades in arms, brothuhs from a different mothuh.

country with contrast
Dear Joe,
What a country with contrast. From mud huts and goats to water parks and ice skating rinks. I could listen to Tom Waits with you, but not so much read Pynchon. It is good to see you had a few days off, because you have worked almost non-stop for the past month. Get ready, the Minnesota gang is ready and will be there soon. Love, Mama

that corn sounds good
glad you had some rest and some cooling ice. we see a lot of that corn over in mexico---there they spred it with mayo and sprinkle on hot red pepper powder. hope you will be home when we pass thru--praying for you daily--love bogie

OMG I can't believe you just said that!
You really said 'brothuhs from a different mothuh' LOL! Joe, I feel that I must say that this phrase sounds strange and hilarious when coming from your vast vocabulary.

Moving along, it sounds like you are having lots of fun. I didn't realize that you could find skating rinks and water parks so close together.
