I don't know if it is because of jet-lag or because of the long driving hours and hard trails, but at nights we do sleep really well. At 6:00 am we wake up, and although we had not our breakfast included in the price, the owners offer a nice meal: toasts, juice, coffee, iogurt... Really nice from them. We decide not going up to Telegraph Cove, under the suspition that we will not see any whales from the harbour as they say, and the excursions, with no guarantee of watching, are quite expensive for us. So we head south and start our day hikes at Elk Falls, where lots of residents do some jogging or walk around the river, but not go further the electrical central. After it, we are the only ones hiking up to the falls, certainly hidden and with a horrible viewpoint, which makes me risk and get down over the rocks to get a better view. A good hike to prepare for Strathcona Provintial Park, some kms further to the west on the same road.  The only information point is at the lodge, do not look for a visitor center. There they tell us which are the best trails, and we do them:
- Lower and Upper Myra Falls
- Lady Falls
- Lupin Falls

As usual, the longest and hardest one is the most deceiving of all (Upper Myra Falls), the rest are quite OK, and the views of Lower Myra Falls from the other side of the lake are curious, too.
At 4:00 pm we get into the car and start our way to Courtenay. Our bed tonight is at a private propierty next to the river, far from the town. There is a lot of people up and down, playing, talking or relaxing. We check in, have a shower and go back to town for a more than deserved supper at Ricky's. After supper a quick visit to the supermarket to get some change for paying cash at the lodge, which has no idea of the US dollar change, and prefers canadian dollars.
Back to the room, Monika watches the end of yesterday's film while I sleep. At 10:00 pm, we are ready for sleeping, but the TV on the living room next to our bedroom is very low, and it is difficult to sleep, but we are so exhausted we could have slept inside a discotheque...
Driven distance: 362 km.
