There's one English speaking radio station in Geneva. Their website is very popular for expats looking to sell or buy stuff. They also report on local and international news.

Here's one of today's top five stories:

Later shopping in Lausanne

From next Saturday, shops in Lausanne will be able to stay open until 6pm. Local authorities gave the go ahead and confirmed there was no real opposition to the later opening hours. The decision has taken 27 years of lobbying to achieve. Most of Switzerland closes its doors to shoppers at 5pm on Saturdays.

TWENTY SEVEN YEARS of lobbying for one extra hour on a Saturday.

For the love of christ. This place is amazing.

On the other side of amazing, however... I went waterskiing last night. This will be a regular activity for me since I can walk to the club from Nicky's downtown flat that I'm staying at this summer. The skiing starts early enough and goes late enough that if I wanted to ski both in the mornings and evenings I could. I won't, but I could.

I think I impressed the pants off the guy who was driving, even though I haven't being skiing more than a dozen times in as many years. Then went for dinner with him and a couple of his friends where I sort of managed conversation in French.

When learning a second language, I've found that when you meet native speakers of that language who speak English, there are two types of people. Those that are patient want you to practice, and those that switch to English because the just actually really want to hear what you say (both well intentioned, I think). Last night I was with one of each of those, and someone who was less confident with their English than I was with my French, so we all got along with a melange of conversation.

The ski club is having a BBQ on Saturday. This place is so rad for me.
