Our trip to the Galapagos Islands was such a huge highlight for us. We were onboard the S/Y Beagle with 10 other passengers from Britain, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. It was a 7 night/8 day cruise going from island to island, most of the cruising done by night.

We had a great guide called Valentina who was actually born on one of the islands. She was a marine biologist and was very informative on the wildlife and environment. The Islands are volcanic with black lava rocks, mostly barren landscape but surprisingly green on some islands. The weather was glorious, quite strange to be on the equator without intense heat or humidity, it was a perfect time to visit.

Our days started with a fabulous breakfast, though usually at 7am! Afterwards, we'd go on a 2 hour walk to learn about the wildlife and observe the different species that existed on a particular island. Back on the yacht for lunch and a siesta and then go for another walk in the afternoon or snorkelling or perhaps going on a dingy to view some more wildlife. Back on the yacht again in time for our late afternoon cocktail & nibbles before dinner!

Suffice to say, we enjoyed ourselves immensely!

We saw a lot of wildlife, here are some of the most memorable: Sea lions, blue-footed boobies (bird species, red-footed boobies, nazca boobbies and masked boobies, fregat birds (males puff up a huge red ballon attached to their neck to attract the females!), Mockingbirds, Galapagos hawks (the only predator on the island and most feared by the young of all animal and bird species), pelicans, Darwin finches, land and marine iguanas, white-tipped reef sharks, sea-turtles, giant tortoises, Galapagos penguins (yes, at the equator!), stingrays, octopus, sea cucumber, lots of tropical fish, bright orange-coloured crabs.

Nothing more to say to this trip, have a look at the photos, a few good ones we think!
