What a way to spend your 10th Wedding Anniversary.....................in a rather attractive orange boiler suit walking on a 1m wide track around the outside of the Auckland Sky Tower!

It was something we had both wanted to do since watching a TV presenter battle with the elements through the restaurant window whilst we ate lunch inside way back in 2008!

Once we knew that they were running a 'buy one get one free' over the quieter winter months of 2010 we were in there!

As always, Jeff was the brave one, taking everything in his stride while I fought with my fears.  I vowed not to look down, but that was never going to be an option.  A strange fixation, drew my eyes to the path almost instantly.

To be honest, the actual walking around the track, soon felt 'safe' five minutes into the walk.  It was fascinating watching rush hour below -  the cars and folk darting around like ants.  It was good to stop and admire the views of Rangitoto and the harbour bridge.  However, what I found absolutely terrifying was having to lean off over the side of the tower, something which Jeff seemed to do with ease!  I put it down to the fact that I have never been climbing or abseiling so have never had to 'trust' a harness before!!!  The first couple of times we had to do it, I clung on to the rope above me for dear life, even though I was being encouraged to let go.  I felt that, me squeezing the rope with my gloves on, was in fact the only thing stopping me plunging to my death below, my harness had nothing to do with it!!!

Eventually after enduring this experience several times over, I learnt to trust the harness and managed to let go...............well for a second or two anyway!  Just enough time to get a photo!  A feeling of achievement, if not a little pathetic on my part!

Another thrilling experience achieved, another tick on the list.  Lucy has now informed us that she would like to have a go, as soon as she hits the magic age of 10.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience..............honest!  Everytime we see the Sky Tower on the skyline we both look for the platform to see if there are any tiny orange dots up there, moving around!

If you ever get the chance, it is well worth a go :-)
