We left the house by 9am for a full day out......

We spent time in Ponsonby sorting (the boring stuff): IRD numbers, letters to post, visit to the bank....yawn, yawn, yawn!  Really like going to the bank, everyone is so friendly and you actually get to talk to real people, not to a machine!  We met the bank manager who is also English and arrived in New Zealand 14 weeks ago.  She was really approachable and I think I may be emailing her/ringing her for advice on occasions!

We then headed for the hills................................

First Swanson to check out the area as we have seen some properties in that neck of the woods, then Bethell's Beach

We had a fantastic time there, in the middle of nowhere eating our sarnies!  The sand was black, the sea was wild, very like Piha really but a little wilder.  We kept well away from the sea and the quick sand!!  We had lessons on the beach, we did art in the sand (check out the children's elephants), learnt about tides and the influence of the moon and learnt about the creatures who lived in the sand dunes.  We love this outdoor classroom :-)  We walked miles down the sand with the wind blowing in our faces and the sand stinging our legs.  We decided that the sand blowing around the beach looked like spirits flying around!  At the end of the beach we discovered a cave, however, we didn't have the guts to go in!  It was obviously a sea cave and the sea was beginning to come back in, I didn't really fancy an adventure that thrilling, particularly when I found out that we had no mobile phone coverage!  We will leave that for another day when we are a family of 4, have some torches with us and the sea is going out!

We were really lucky with the weather, the rain managed to hold off until we were nearly back to the car - good job really as we had walked a very long way.

We then drove down Scenic Drive back towards Titirangi.  I am beginning to love this road so much, particularly at the top on the ridge.  You can see the bays of Auckland and the city on one side and the western beaches on the other - amazing views, just need to see them on a lovely sunny day :-)

By the time we got into Titirangi it was pouring with rain - good job we were inside looking at houses. The first one looked promising - warm and quirky is how I would describe it, near to the village in  Wood Bay.  We will have to get Jeff out to have a look.  The second one........well we didn't even go inside!  Not our cup of tea, I didn't like the outside and neither did the children - that's enough for me!

Then back to Auckland for dinner and a Phoenix card party :-)
