Where I stayed
After breakfast we tried very hard to get on the road a little earlier for the long drive back to Reykjavik, that was after spending some time 'talking' to some Icelandic ponies on the farm where we were staying. At the beginning of the holiday we really wanted to take the children out riding, however, it has been far too cold for that, they would have been thoroughly miserable - will have to wait for warmer climates.
We drove yet another scenic road via Borganes to Reykjavik and had experience of driving 6km under the sea (in a tunnel of course!) We drove alongside more fjords, through waste land, past volcanoes and through more lava tunnels, arriving in the city at lunchtime. We managed to find the Perlan quite easily. This is a place 2km out of town based in the town's old hot water tanks and has a cafe way up high with a 360 view of the whole area. This time we had fantastic weather so the views were great. We then visited the Saga Museum to learn all about the Vikings in Iceland. It was absolutely amazing, the Vikings were SO life like, we kept looking closely at them expecting them to move. It got to the point where Lucy was quite spooked by the whole affair, particularly when one of the models did actually move! She felt better after watching a film on how the models were made. Silicon casts from real people - absolutely amazing :-)
After lunch we drove out of town to the Blue Lagoon, probably Iceland's main tourist attraction. The plan was to do it on the way to the airport but we decided we needed more time. We were so glad we changed our plans - we spent over three hours there enjoying the beautiful surroundings and the hot water. We swam, we floated, we sat and chatted/laughed and covered our faces in silicon mud - it was brilliant
After driving back to town we checked into Hotel Fron again - this time the room, no rooms were brilliant. As we were a family they had given us an apartment with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room and a living room - LUXURY after living in one room for the last couple of weeks!
Then it was off for dinner in Reykjavik. This city has certainly grown on us, a great place to visit :-)
