Where I stayed
After breakfast, we headed for Akureyri, Iceland's second largest 'city' via Godafoss a very beautiful waterfall.........yes another one. I wish the UK cities were as nice as Akureyri - not a bit of litter anywhere and very cute houses on the side of a fjord. We drank coffee in a book shop and managed to find a great kids book with lots of Icelandic Elf stories in it - something we have been looking for over the past week.
We then wandered down the rest of the shopping area, which was particularly quiet, seeing as though it was a Sunday.
Then it was the highlight of my day....................a trip down the fjord to Christmas Gardens. A shop which sells all things Christmas every day of the year. You couldn't miss the building as it was bright red with sweets stuck on the roof. Santa's clothes were on the washing line outside and their was a tree full of stars. Oh and yet more fairy houses with lights and furniture and even a little church! Then a tower which houses a very large advent calendar and even the toilets were decorated out for Christmas and played Christmas music! Jo's heaven and I kept thinking about how much Fiona would love it too..................wish you could have seen it :-(
Inside the actually shop, it was jam packed full of nordic decorations and smelt delicious, they also sold cards and sweets. Very expensive but very sweet - the kids and Jo loved it! Had to buy a little santa made from stones!
Afterwards we made the drive along the fjords, then through the mountains to our beds for the night, calling in at another lovely restaurant which took some finding! Both Jeff and I headed for a large building which we thought was a hotel restaurant, but turned out to be the local hospital!!
After dinner we headed off into nowhere to the farm were we were staying. Lots of horses everywhere and a friendly dog, a free internet connection but no TV!
