Montevideo is the capital and largest city of Uruguay with a population of over 1,600,000.  Upon our arrival, the only proof that a large population existed, was the abundance of large buildings and rubbish littering the streets (with accompanying urine stench).  Apparently all of Montevideo was on holiday and most had been to Colonia or surrounding beach towns enjoying Carnaval parades and beach life. This large city seemed to be deserted.

If organizing the tour on my own, I would have definitely skipped this part of the tour, as it was quite dirty.  Despite this, I still managed to find things to do. Colin, Alison, Leticia and I went walking through the town and actually found a nice shopping district where we spent a few hours window shopping.

It was in this town that some of the group went to a strip club and were treated to a pole dance from Alex, a new (male) group member. He stripped to his boxers and bright green crocks (a brand of hideous "plastic" shoes now blamed for a number of accidents involving children and escalators lol).  On that night, Leticia and I went for a meal and were joined by John, Colin, Alison and Simone for a few drinks.

The next day, upon Dawna´s recommendation, we all ended up at the most expensive restaurant in all of Uruguay.  Despite the hefty price, a surprise as we all thought each other had checked the menu, we all enjoyed our meals of sushi, stuffed chicken breast and grilled meats.  Tip:  Never ask the waiter to suggest a bottle of wine and accept without knowing the price.  It will always be the most expensive!! Good job I was on Cokes.

Our evening was lovely, but it is definitely time to leave and find a beach or something.

(It was also here that Sally hit her face on the floor when falling and ended up at the hospital followed by the dentist... she was ok in the end but it all looked very painful)
