So firstly we got into town early to make sure that we could get a good seat to see the view that is meant to be amazing. Unfortunately the Sydney police were very good at sorting things out for New Years so everywhere was an alcohol free zone, we went firstly to the sydney opera house to see if we could get in and see some freinds and see if we could seat down there, however, at 3pm the place was full and we weren't allowed to bring in are own drinks (rubbish). The second place that we decided to go to was the Botanical Gardens, right next to the Opera House and a lovely view of the harbour and the Sydney Bridge. Again no alcohol policy so we decided that we would forget that idea as well and we wanted to make sure that we could have alcohol to bring in the New Year.
Finally one of my mates called us and asked where we were and told us that we had to get to the observatory gardens and that they didn't have any legislation on alcohol, so off we went with some lovely goon (boxed wine). once we were there we found my mates and decided that it was a good spot to watch the fireworks (we arrived at 6ish pm).
So now we wait, 6hrs to go, met up with a couple of friends that were still in Sydney and then that had come back to watch the fireworks.
Once the fireworks started it was like all hell had broken loose, so many firworks it was unreal. so much smoke, and by the end it was like nothing i had ever seen before, you couldn't see the city as there was so much smoke. The fireworks themselves were awesome, they were all set off on time and perfectly positioned, we saw the whole show (all for free). in all it lasted about 15minutes.
Perfect way to bring in the New Year. Next Jon and I are off to Mildura to pick fruit - gonna be great fun.
